We have an immediate opening for a Lead Engineer in our Central Maintenance Department. The principal purpose of this position is the performance and support of Central Maintenance Department project work for the specification, procurement, design, installation and checkout of new or major modifications to existing process equipment. Coordinating this work with the other departments and plant engineers as necessary, purchasing and equipment vendors are extremely important aspects of the job. Another important area of the position is serving as a resource for others in areas of their experience and expertise. Additionally, this position will support the operations of Central Maintenance through daily management, problem solving efforts in both production and maintenance. The major challenge of this position is to provide sound engineering work in a variety of situations and to maintain a high level of technical expertise for the types of equipment currently being installed on Arconic process equipment.

Major activities/Key challenges:
  • The position acts as working engineer in the plant and supervises approximately 2-6 engineers.
  • Works with minimum supervision and direction of their supervisor.
  • This position will lead departmental activities or efforts along with the other 5 leadership roles in the department. This includes (but not limited to) activities in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Lean Manufacturing Principles, Finance, daily department or plant wide meetings, hourly and salary hiring and development.
  • Establishes connection with key resources in areas of responsibility to understand problems impacting EHS, product recovery, equipment reliability, production throughput and can connect how the Central Maintenance engineering team will deploy solutions and prioritize work according to business needs.
  • Establishes solid communication process for their own work as well as direct reports with their supervisor, key effected resources, and other managers accordingly.
  • Responsible to develop project proposals, benefits, etc. to request funds for approval with upper management.
  • Leads thorough development, scope, planning, and implementation plan for equipment, process, and safety improvements through the plant's expense and capital budget processes.
  • Incorporates key internal customers or affected parties from the beginning to the end of changes to the equipment, process, or procedure for operation or maintenance.
  • Responsible for controlling project scope, costs, and meeting the project deliverables.
  • Provides technical assistance to maintenance and operating.
  • Keeps abreast of latest technical developments in assigned area.
  • Leads and/or supports project safety reviews, safety inspections and other applicable safety programs.
  • Serves as a resource to other engineers in areas of expertise and experience.
  • Maintaining an awareness of current mechanical engineering technology and appropriate application to Arconic’s process equipment.
  • Provides consultation on major mechanical equipment configuration and problems.
  • Responsible for coordinating and supervising outside contractors when used to supplement engineering or maintenance work and implementation.
  • Recommends technical and procedural policy changes and implements Company policy
  • Directly supervises other engineers and provides direction and guidance in prioritizing work and performing tasks noted in bullets above.
  • Provides direct reports guidance in career growth and development.
  • Arconic Davenport is a 24/7 operation and this role will require coverage as needed accordingly.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering projects in a manufacturing environment to include troubleshooting, maintenance or upgrade of process equipment
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a lead or supervisory role
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in:
  • The application of statistical process control, availability studies, short and long-term capability studies and designed experiments.
  • Budgeting processes, including project justification (ROI), project tracking, project reporting and budget management.
