Job Description

The below is meant to describe the main tasks and is not necessarily an exhaustive list of duties. 

•         Generate new leads and opportunities within existing and new potential clients

•         Be the primary interface between the customer and the Firth Rixson organization

•         Working with key customers contacts to develop and maintain the working relationship

•         Responding quickly to enquiries, completing estimates and quotes and feeding back to the customer in a timely manner

•         Entering customer PO’s and processing through the internal systems while adhering to export control procedures

•         Keeping in daily contact with a number of customer contacts to ensure their requirements and expectations are being met

•         Monitoring and reporting on delivery performance and escalating delivery issues to the customer against agreed delivery promises.

•         Communicating regular status reports to the customer

•         Working with planning, production, and technical departments to manage delivery of customer requirements.

•         Meeting and exceeding wherever possible, the defined levels of customer service

•         communicating courteously with customers by telephone, email, letter and face to face

•         Investigating and solve customers' problems

•         keeping accurate records of discussions or correspondence with customers

•         visiting customers as required to provide a one-to-one service

•         To identify medium and long term new product, new customer opportunities within the European and the domestic market. In addition, to explore/identify medium and long term new market opportunities in other regions if need arises.

•         To present an overview of new opportunities to the Commercial Lead including market entry cost estimations, means of entry and timetables, projections of price levels, margins, product potential, target account potential and target market size and projected account/market shares, with adequate assistance from the relevant internal personnel/ departments.

•         To work with fellow Key Account Managers and the Internal Sales Support Team.

•         To secure orders and ongoing business within agreed financial margins and within agreed pricing policy whilst ensuring that each such policy provides reasonable freedom and flexibility for the Key Account Manager to make pricing/margin decisions when in negotiation without having to refer to the Commercial Lead.

•         To provide and maintain market intelligence as is necessary or as reasonably directed.

•         To provide visit reports and market reports in support of field visits, industry functions and new product/new market ventures.

•         Monitor customer service performance / KPI trends across the business for management early warning notification opportunities.

•         To prepare sales forecasts during each financial year, measured against the relevant annual sales budget and providing credible explanation wherever shortfall or gain is evidenced.


  • Demonstrate attention to detail and the ability to respond quickly and in an organized manner
  • Experience within a busy sales environment
  • Able to work to tight deadlines and on own initiative
  • Driven and ambitious
  • Confident approach in meeting and liaising with customers
  • Ideally from a sales/customer service background
  • Sales experience, primarily within Aerospace and Power Generation markets along with Oilfield, automotive, medical and General engineering sectors
  • Experienced obtained within Forging and Metals manufacturing industries essential
  • Willing to undertake UK and European travel as required

Ideally languages experience – French, Spanish, German

  • Preferred experience in contract negotiation including a general understanding of legal terms and conditions
