The Arconic Technology Center (ATC) is seeking to fill one (1) Intellectual Property Analyst position at its location in New Kensington, Pennsylvania.  The primary role of the IP Analyst is to administer, manage, maintain and report on corporate Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) systems and databases from a business perspective.  This role will touch on all facets of IAM - including patents, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, etc. and will interface with researchers, attorneys, business unit and resource unit personnel and all levels of ATC management. Qualified candidates should possess 5 or more years of professional experience as a patent agent focusing on patent matters while working in a large law firm or corporation.
 
Major Activities / Key Challenges:
 
• Support the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel with IP landscape and clearance searches for all Arconic's worldwide business units by performing patent/trademark clearance searches for new products & technologies.
• Conduct patentability searches
• Search for potential licensing targets based on a comparison of issued patent claims to publicly available information.
• Prepare presentations that present the data from reports in a readily understandable manner.
• Support licensing agreement negotiations as appropriate.
• Provide periodic reports of newly published IP assets, by technology, to respective Arconic BUs/RUs.
• Coordinate and create competitive patent watches.
• Maintain directorate level portfolios for Invention Records, applications, granted patents, and trade secrets.
• Develop, perform, and present trend analysis on elements of IAM (e.g., IR submittal rates, etc.).
• Administer internal IP training modules to ensure timely release & accurate attendance records using existing and new systems.
• Report on ATC IP expense allocations - by directorate and/or business unit.
• Support IP legal agreement creation (e.g., NDA/JDA/MOU) and IP monetization efforts, as needed.
• Manage Arconic’s trade secret database.
• Assist with periodic IP award celebrations.
• Update and maintain IAM framework documents -  internal process IP content, forms, templates, etc.; and
• Facilitate communications between researchers, attorneys, IP committees, ATC management and BU personnel.  
• Monitor publications associated with former employees to identify possible misappropriation matters requiring legal review.  
 
Essential Knowledge & skills / Education:
 
• Working knowledge of IP docketing systems such as Anaqua and the reporting capabilities therein.
• Detailed understanding of patent prosecution and the ability to compare patent claims of published patent applications and issued patents to company products and/or research targets.
• General understanding of the various other types of intellectual property including trade secrets and trademarks.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
 
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.  
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a corporate or academic environment working with trade secrets, patents, trademarks and/or copyrights.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:
 
• Patent agent registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and/or at least 5 years of practice as an IP searcher.
• Paralegal or legal background or law-related experience.
• Self-starter with a willingness to ask questions and anticipate problems.
• Engineering in materials science or mechanical engineer.
• Business degree (either undergraduate or graduate) or a minor therein.
