Job Description

This Ground Transportation Market Sector Director reports to the Vice President, Strategy & Business Transformation. The Strategy and Business Transformation organization consists of three groups: the Market Sector teams, whose role is to create transparency, drive strategic analysis, and provide critical guidance to Arconic’s businesses on their key markets; Strategy and Business Initiatives, which serves as Arconic’s corporate strategy team, as well as driving strategic projects to improve the business; and the Growth Program Office, that drives business transformation initiatives around commercial excellence across the enterprise.

This position will also work closely with and under additional (“dotted-line”) direction of an executive sponsor for the global Ground Transportation Market Sector Team.  This sponsor has historically been the business unit leader from a business unit participating in the Market Sector Team.  The Strategy & Business Transformation organization is aligned across three Market sectors:  Ground Transportation, Aerospace, and Defense.  

The primary focus of the GT MST Director will include creating customer transparency and intimacy, driving performance dialog with the business units, and improving commercial effectiveness. Focus areas for growth includes tracking and engaging new OEM product launches with best available solutions and driving regional penetration. The incumbent will manage a small (2-3 FTE) team to provide analytical support.

The incumbent will:
  • Develop, maintain and communicate global market sector analysis including global industry & market trends, forecasted market size and segments, value chain, customers, key suppliers, competitors, business models and strategies as it pertains to Arconic’s Automotive and Commercial Transportation market.  Arconic is a leading supplier of material and semi-fabricated solutions that can help meet the requirements for increased vehicle efficiencies and performance.
  • ​Lead the Ground Transport Market Sector Team (MST) to ensure effective collaboration with the Arconic business units and Arconic Technology Center in order to drive profitable growth for Arconic and thus create tangible Arconic Advantage.
  • Contribute to Arconic corporate strategy on ground transportation-related issues and opportunities.
  • Lead the customer loyalty framework known as NPS (Net Promoter Score) within Arconic for the Ground Transport MST.
  • Create shared customer intimacy in close cooperation with the business units to identify actionable improvement opportunities.
  • Establish regular growth reporting by customer within Market sector segment (automotive, truck, trailer, bus, rail, marine).
  • Provide leadership to support and coach the Market Sector Team and Key Account Managers whose members are commercial and technical leaders across Arconic. The role requires the incumbent to work in a matrix organization across various business units and resource units. 
  • Influence regulatory organizations (including legislators, regulators, NGOs) to establish standards that acknowledge and promote the inherent benefits of aluminum over other metals and the superiority of Arconic’s technology.
  • Establish, communicate and deploy a framework for long range strategic plans and performance metrics that will position the corporation and its business units for long term profitable growth and customer satisfaction in the Ground Transport sector.
  • Guide the market based communication initiatives in support of BU objectives and regional strategies. Leverage corporate communication resources to maximize efficiency and execution of engagements across the globe.
  • Create customer transparency for the Ground Transportation Sector:
    • Top-down value analysis based on procurement volume, including through distribution.
    • Understand the competitive situation of Arconic customers.
    • Understand Arconic & competitor shares by product line, including other materials
    • Understand why the customers prefer competitors/other materials
    • Craft unique selling proposition for Arconic gain market share resulting in profitable growth.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications :  
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in marketing/commercial/product management/product planning/strategy functions.
  • Minimum 1 years management/supervisory experience.
 Preferred Qualifications :  
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years experience managing large projects.
  • Minimum 3 years management/supervisory experience in the automotive/truck industry (Tier 1 or OEM)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Able to effectively lead internal and external audiences to desired outcomes through influence, strong communication skills and natural leadership.
  • Strong results focus, business and financial acumen, and metrics orientation.
  • Excellent strategic planning skills and knowledge of manufacturing and lean principles.
  • Experience working with all levels of management, as well as vendors, research and development professionals, regulatory organizations.
