Job Description

Arconic Fastening Systems (AFS) is a seeking Global Trade Compliance Specialist to assist the Trade Compliance team (Import/Export (IMEX)) in ensuring the Company's adherence to U.S. Customs laws and regulations as it relates to the importation of merchandise.  This includes, but is not limited to, reconciliation, audit import files, record retention, and documentation.  In addition, this person will maintain good working relationships and cooperate actively with AFS sites worldwide and other outside companies including freight forwarders.  This position is located at our headquarters in Torrance, CA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze materials to assign correct U.S. country HTS classifications and all countries in which we conduct business
  • Ensure timely clearance of shipments through U.S. Customs while ensuring AFS’ Customs Compliance policies are being followed.
  • Educate and train internal customers on importing requirements.
  • Handle all related activities associated with importing merchandise.
  • Analyze, research, and assign the appropriate Harmonized Tariff Schedule number for all materials and parts when a site requests assistance.
  • Request U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) binding rulings as necessary.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import issues to ensure timely clearance.
  • Research and respond to daily customs broker’s inquiries on import shipments, ensuring timely clearance of shipments.
  • Audit 100% of US entries for accuracy. Provide direction to customs brokers to make corrections to customs entries when errors are found.
  • Audit, process, log, and assign appropriate account numbers to all customs broker invoices upon receipt for payment.
  • Obtain Steel Import Licenses.
  • Authorize and close out of the Temporary Import Bond entries in the time frame allowed by CBP.
  • Conduct analysis on AFS manufactured products to determine country of origin.
  • Prepare, research, and distribute monthly import cost reports.
  • Liaison between the sites and customs brokers on Return Goods Authorization. Ensure all required documentation is provided so the return can be processed through CBP.
  • Track liquidation dates and amounts of all US entries.
  • Train Sourcing and Engineering on assists. Liaison between AFS and customs brokers for ensuring assists are declared properly and timely.
  • Submit reconciliation reports by gathering information and preparing the data for submission.
  • Educate and train internal customers on importing requirements.
  • Special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Prepare annual repack certification letters for Customs.
  • Maintain and provide the Customhouse broker with information regarding classification.
  • Maintain and process all activities related to the ACH process.
  • Train and audit global locations
  • Provide guidance to global IMEX SPA and locations

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Institution
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with international trade and compliance
  • Minimum 3 years experience in import compliance experience
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
 
Preferred Qualifications :
 
  • Experience with HTS classifications
  • Knowledge of U.S. CBP and other governmental agencies.
  • Experience with maquiladoras
  • Licensed Customs Broker.
  • Experience with Microsoft programs with intermediate proficiency (Word, Access, Excel) as well as the capability to learn additional AFS software.
