Job Description

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

Ÿ  Provide engineering support to achieve target levels of plant (Heat Treatment & Forge Furnaces) availability and overall performance

Ÿ  Assist in the development of front line maintenance skills and overall resource to the Engineering Department

Ÿ  Develop a robust and productive maintenance plan through predictive and PPM programmes.

Ÿ  Carry out furnace repairs, breakdowns, associated upgrades and subsequent commissioning requirements

Ÿ  Liaise with Quality, Production and the Site Engineering Manager to expedite maintenance/engineering operations on all furnaces

Ÿ  Carry out routine maintenance on all furnaces, instruments, recording equipment and functions in accordance with the maintenance management system (MMS)

Ÿ  Compile, review and provide the Site Engineering Manager (for authorisation) with all associated Risk Assessments (RA’s) for engineering activities to ensure a safe system of work is implemented and maintained

Ÿ  Ensure detailed records of furnace issues, safety and overall furnace reliability is accurately maintained and readily available

Ÿ  Ensure process compliance with quality requirements

Ÿ  Set up and carry out surveys, SATS and TUS on all furnaces

Ÿ  Ensure records of Calibrations, Thermocouple Position and Numbers are maintained and readily available

Ÿ  Carry out repairs of associated instruments (where applicable) and thermocouples and the associated spares management

Ÿ  Enforce and practice a high standard of Health & Safety at all times and ensure that the plant and all ancillary equipment are maintained safely

Ÿ  Ensure all recording systems for work completion are correctly compiled

Ÿ  Provide a daily activity report to the Site Engineering Manager

Ÿ  Any other adhoc duties as required



Ÿ  Minimum 2 – 3 Years’ experience in a Furnace Technicians position (or similar) 

Ÿ  Experience of a hot working environmental (rolling, forging, ring rolling, foundry) would be advantageous.


Ÿ  Good academic qualifications (i.e. HNC / ONC or equivalent).
