Job Description:
 
Under the direction of the AWTP Director of Quality, the Forging Design and Process Engineering Manager provides technical direction and decision making to Wheel Products for both new and existing forging designs, dies and processes.  The incumbent’s department has responsibility for performing forging process modeling analysis for wheel and related forgings and establish CAE (computer aided engineering) direction for Wheel Products.  The incumbent is charged with evaluation and development of CAE methods into the design stream to enable the most efficient design processes for Wheel Products.  The incumbent will establish modeling parameters and analysis methodologies necessary to achieve reliable results.  He/she will also establish R & D needs and directions for CAE efforts working with the Manager-Research and Process Development resources at the Alcoa Technical Center and external contacts. Manage design, analysis and process personnel to insure work product and schedules meet the needs of Wheel Products internal and external customers within the direction established by the Technical Manager.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Managing all design activities for forging, forming and trimming tools, as well as, standard holders and other common forging tools
  • Manage the development and implementation of all new commercial vehicle and forged specialty wheel forging manufacturing processes
  • Management of the global CVW process approval for forging related process
  • Support Quality Planning and new product launch activities through APQP
  • Develop and manage the best practice sharing activities related to forging & spinning processes to assure standardization globally as applicable
  • Accountable to develop process specifications for new processes and ensure that key process variables are clearly identified and controlled for forging design and the forging process
  • Management of the die shop coordinator, the external die shop activities and associated budget
  • Coordinating and conducting assigned development programs leading to improved products and processes
  • Implementing and supporting continuous improvement and stability activities such as Process Management.  
  • Establish direction for Forging design and analysis activities and R & D to create and maintain continuous improvements.
  • Providing technical leadership, coaching and mentoring to forging design and process engineers


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Institution
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience with engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing/leading people.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of computer aided engineering and design tools and techniques are also required. 
  • The incumbent should have a thorough understanding of forging process and tooling design, preferably in wheel forging applications.
