Building and Construction Systems, a business unit of Arconic, is the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry. Kawneer is part of Arconic’s global Building and Construction Systems (BCS) business unit, which manufactures and markets architectural systems and products in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
  
We are seeking a Senior Project Estimator (Estimator III) to be a part of the Order Pursuit Team located in Harrisonburg, VA.  The Order Pursuit Team is involved in pricing/estimating construction projects such as storefronts, curtain wall, doors and windows.  The right candidate will have broad construction knowledge, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have a strong customer focus and exceptional verbal communications skills to present information to our management and leadership. 
 
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assist Lead in bid/no-bid selectivity;
  • Prepare material proposals and material take-offs for Kawneer products from customer supplied lists, customer elevations and architectural plans/specifications;
  • Confirm with customer and/or sales regarding scheduling of requests;
  • Coordinates with Engineering/Design department for schedule of engineering reviews;
  • Coordinates with other Kawneer facilities for package pricing of multiple products;
  • Creates estimates using KaluCAD software;
  • Generals material takeoff for pricing purposes;
  • Evaluates and confirms proposals;
  • Meets all project criteria including any applicable exceptions;
  • Generates pricing for Technical Services (Engineer, Drafting and Material Take-off);
  • Evaluates and offers strategic alternate pricing;
  • Coordinates combined product pricing as required;
  • Communicates with customers and sales representatives to develop a job strategy/product application;
  • Provide required levels of service to customers where Kawneer is the preferred supplier;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with employees and other internal resources on complex projects;
  • Develop knowledge of and regularly use Kawneer product portfolio and price book;
  • Use JD Edwards / KaluCAD applications to calculate price concessions based on established guidelines;
  • Be a point-of-contact on phone inquiries with expectation of 100% “live call” response and customer assistance without frequently forwarding calls to other front-end employees.;
  • Maintains proficiency in all operating systems and tools;
  • Meets or exceeds closing ratios to support established sales plans;
  • Reads and interprets architectural plans and installation instructions;
  • Calculates engineering loads on single and double spans.
Major Activities/Key Challenges:
  • Manages OTIF (On Time in Full) by understanding capacity and demand;
  • Manages daily estimating requests;
  • Develops tools to help improve process efficiency;
  • Understand customer pricing requests, plans and specifications, material lists, simple material take-offs and material take-offs that require application engineering and revision;
  • Selects the proper documents/materials for design review;
  • Creates electronic folders and printouts for design review;
  • Assists the design team on bid/no bid selections;
  • Visualizes design concepts from architectural plans.

Qualifications

 Basic Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the building and construction industry;
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Drafter, Estimator or Customer Service Coordinator;
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience in the construction / architectural industry;
  • Minimum of 5 years of cost estimating experience;
  • Previous experience providing cost estimates for Curtain Wall / Window Wall products;
  • Experience using JD Edwards and / or KaluCAD;
  • Ability to visualize design concepts from Architectural Plans;
  • Ability to calculate engineering loads on single and double window spans.
