Building and Construction Systems, a business unit of Arconic, is the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry. Kawneer is part of Arconic’s global Building and Construction Systems (BCS) business unit, which manufactures and markets architectural systems and products in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The Estimator II position for the Major Projects team located in Harrisonburg, VA is primarily responsible for reviewing and scheduling customer pricing requests while maintaining a level of work balance between estimators.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares bid proposals from customer requests or architectural plans;
  • Confirms with customer and/or sales regarding scheduling of requests;
  • Coordinates with Engineering/Design department for schedule of engineering review;
  • Coordination with other Kawneer facilities for package pricing of multiple products.
  • Creates estimates in KaluCAD.
  • Generates material takeoff for pricing purposes.
  • Evaluates and confirms proposals.
  • Meets all project criterial including any applicable exceptions;
  • Generates pricing for technical services;
  • Evaluates and offers strategic alternate pricing;
  • Coordinates combined product pricing as required.
  • Communicates with customers and sales to develop a job strategy/product application;
  • Maintains proficiency in all operating systems and tools;
  • Meets or exceeds closing ratios to support annual sales plans;
  • Reads and interprets architectural plans and installation instructions;
  • Calculates engineering loads based on single and double spans.
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
  • Manages OTIF by understanding capacity and demand;
  • Manages daily estimating requests;
  • Develops tools to help process efficiency;
  • Understands customer pricing requests such as plans and specifications, material lists, simple take-offs and take-offs requiring application engineering and revisions;
  • Selects the proper documents and materials for a design review;
  • Creates electronic folders and printouts for a design review;
  • Assists the design team with bid/no-bid selectivity;
  • Provides pricing layouts for Corporate million-dollar reviews via MS Excel;
  • Visualizes design concepts from Architectural plans and specifications; 


Basic Qualifications:
  • Associates degree from an accredited institution;
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience in building and construction;
  • Demonstrated customer relationship skills;
  • Demonstrated computer, time management and file management skills;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of diverse experience in the construction field in the areas of estimating; 
  • Knowledge of Kawneer Products and Services.
  • Ability to use KaluCAD.
  • Ability to perform Material Takeoffs as it relates to Project Management material order flow.
