This position is a rotational assignment that will report to either the Product Engineering Manager, Design Engineering Manager or the Director of Technology, dependent on each rotation. Each assignment may last 9-12 months, depending on the needs of the specific department. There will be one assignment in each of the following departments: Product Design, R&D (technology), and Program Launch.

This position provides technical support to the global AWTP organization for the development of new designs, technology, processes and products, and continuous improvement to reduce manufacturing costs and improve the marketability of the product.
The incumbent communicates continually with the engineering and technology department staff, Arconic Technical Center, production, process engineering, quality assurance personnel in all global manufacturing sites.

Internal contacts include the technical department staff, production, process engineering, supply chain, quality assurance, sales and marketing personnel. External contacts are with other Arconic locations including the Arconic Technical Center, outside university contacts, technical consultants and outside suppliers.



Job Responsibilities and Duties:

The principal focus of this position is to gain experience in various roles within the Engineering and Technology department. Each role will teach new skills applicable to that specific position. Tasks and responsibilities include:
  • Product Design Engineering
    • Design, Finite Element Analysis, and print creation of Heavy, Medium, and Light-Duty wheels using 3D CAD and Finite Element Analysis toolsets.
    • Support of Alcoa Wheels accessory design and engineering, as required.
    • Supporting the Advanced Quality Planning Process throughout product development and providing DFMEA & DVP (&R) support on new and revised wheel programs.
    • Participating in weekly AQP/PLM meetings to ensure internal and external deliverables are met or appropriate “Recovery Plans” are in place.
    • Ensuring all design standards and technical requirements are adhered to throughout the design process.
    • Working directly with customers in designing, developing, and implementing wheel products into customers’ applications.
    • Supporting customer PPAP by communicating or providing engineering deliverables to the customer during wheel launch.
  • Technology-R&D
    • Facilitate an R&D project from conception to prototype, and implementation when required. Experience in the use of project management tools, such as Microsoft Project. Provide product samples, coordinate or conduct necessary tests to the prove concept, develop supporting business case and prepare process documentation. Meet jointly defined objectives and targets for Revenue, Margin and timeframe from New Products.
    • Participate, maintain and improve the New Product Development process and system within the Marketing and R&D Department. Developing manufacturing-friendly process improvements and new processes.
    • Support process engineering on leading Six Sigma, ABS, Structured Problem Solving, or other process improvement effort to reduce process variability and lower production costs and improve the product we are delivering to the customer.
    • Identifying potential new technologies that can add value to the business.
  • Program Management
    • Participate in the global product launch process for specified programs to ensure accurate, timely and cost-effective product launches.
    • Managing Gantt charts for all products in development.
    • Drive product and process development and qualifications for specified programs at all locations globally.
    • Working with various global organizations and disciplines to manage the development of new and improved wheel products.
    • Facilitate all product, tooling and/or process design changes for new and existing wheel programs.
    • Provide technical support to operations for specified programs.
The incumbent is expected to execute these challenges under the direction of the Product Engineering Manager (Product Design & Program Management rotations) and the Director of Technology (Research & Development/Technology rotation).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computing skills are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with the following programs: CAD software (SolidWorks or similar).
  • Experience in creating Gantt chart / timeline.
  • Prior internship experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
