Job Description

Arconic Fastening Systems is looking for an Engineering Manager to manage all engineering activities within the department including design, development, production and testing. This role will implement and maintain overall engineering objectives and initiatives; confront and solve performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency; lead and develop the engineering team and is responsible for mentoring less experienced engineers to develop them into experts in the technical understanding of externally threaded and bearings products and their associated manufacturing processes. The Engineering Manager oversees a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. This position is located at our aerospace plant in Simi Valley, CA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manages the Engineering Department, and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units
  • Directs department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  • Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Work closely with Product Engineering, R&D Engineering, Sales & Marketing, and Manufacturing to develop plans for obtaining customer qualification on specific products.
  • Work with all appropriate personnel to establish and maintain project schedules and budgets within the limits of established policies and procedures, and to assure timely delivery of completed qualifications within budget.
  • Coordinate communication with customers and the market regarding the qualification plans, the progress thereof and the final delivery of qualification parts and reports required by the customer.
  • Generate cost estimates and develop Engineering Change Proposal packages.
  • Prepare and deliver customer presentations as needed.
  • Oversee and evaluate the technical aspects of vendor performance to technical and quality requirements.
  • Propose changes in equipment, processes, materials or services which would result in cost reduction or improvement in operations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of AFS and industry externally threaded products and bearings, and disseminate this knowledge into the organization as a consultant to the operations, technical and quality staff.
  • Research, study and evaluate new opportunities outside of the realm of today's market.
  • Lead the development of creative and innovative solutions to technical problems by using state-of-the-art technical development in the area of systems, process or product design.
  • Regularly brief management on the latest status of projects both in process and proposed.
  • Mentor and develop technical skills of less experienced engineers.
  • Supply technical inspiration, leadership and consultation to professional co-workers.
  • Improve the technical base and the communication among the engineering team and within the facility.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and contribute to improvement of processes and products.
  • Document new ideas and current technical information in design guides and memos.
  • Represent the organization in outside discussions and technical forums.
  • Participate in technical societies as needed.
  • Develop strategies to achieve organizational goals; Understand organization's strengths & weaknesses; Analyze market and competition; Identify external threats and opportunities; Adapt strategy to changing conditions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited Institution
  • Minimum 10 years of Engineering experience in Manufacturing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a team of engineers
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering, from an accredited institution.
  • Prefer Master’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Experience in a high volume, precision metal-working manufacturing environment
  • Engineering experience in the aerospace fastener industry
  • Engineering experience in the Aerospace industry
  • Demonstrated experience with customer interaction
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Experience managing capital budgets
