Primary Purpose of Job

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for managing all engineering and maintenance activities within the department including project management, budget, design, scheduling, and procurement processes and procedures. The incumbent will implement and maintain overall engineering objectives and initiatives, as well as confront and solve performance and operational issues to improve development efficiency, lead and develop the engineering team, and monitor less experienced engineers to develop them into experts in the technical understanding of their associated manufacturing processes. This position oversees the Engineering & Maintenance Department. Direct reports include (3) Engineering Leads, (1) Facilities Engineering Lead, (1) Engineering Financial Analysts, and (1) Maintenance Manager. The incumbent communicates continually with all levels of personnel across all departments at Cleveland Operations. Externally, they communicate with suppliers, vendors, local government agencies, and other Arconic locations within the Business Unit. 

Accountability Objectives

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Directing the Maintenance Department through the Maintenance Manager.
  • Maintaining compliance of company policies related to asset management.
  • Proposing identified changes to equipment, processes, materials, and/or services to improve processes and reduce costs in operations.
  • Overseeing a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Leading resolution to escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
  • Researching, studying, and evaluating new opportunities outside of the realm of today’s market.
  • Mentoring and developing the technical skills of less experienced engineers.
  • Improving the technical base and communication among the engineering team within the facility.
  • Implementing and sustaining Lean Manufacturing (ABS) principles and practices.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications

For this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a team of multi-talented engineers.
  • Minimum of 2 years managing/supervising a maintenance team
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications

For this position to be successful, preference is given to candidates with:

  • A Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Engineering experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with managing large capital budgets and projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and written) and delegate while maintaining forward motion on key deliverables.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills to motivate and influence others, including those not under their direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability of problem solving, systems thinking, project management, and team building.
