Job Description

This opening is at our Kawneer business which is in Harrisonburg, VA. We are the leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum products and systems for the commercial construction industry. Kawneer is part of Arconic’ s global Building and Construction systems (BCS) business unit, which manufactures and markets architectural systems and products in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
 
The Drafter / 3D Modeler is an entry-level position and a part of our Technical Services Group (engineering, drafting, and take off).  This position ensures we provide excellent service to our customers by creating 2D and 3D drawings of our products within the customer project scope, drawing revisions, and meeting OTIF deadlines.
 
Primary Functions:
• Uses computer-aided drafting software and established drafting standards to develop layouts, drawings, and designs that meet engineering specifications.
• Reviews architectural and structural drawings, understands product usage and design for application, and retrieves information to complete drawing, layout or design.
• Reviews and understands specifications with supervision.
• Uses detail drawings or engineering specifications with supervision.
• Uses detail drawings or engineering specifications to dimension, scale, or line locate.
• Understands project flow from Sales to Estimating to Technical Services.
• Read and interpret as sold quotes
• Prepares shop drawings for standard and modified standard projects using established drafting standards.
• Incorporates marked up corrections from internal and external customers with supervision.
• Prepares die drawings for projects and customer request.
• Requires knowledge of a variety of standard projects and procedures.
• Interprets architectural and structural drawings, specifications, design drawings and sketches, and reviews with team leaders to ensure correct interpretations.
• Well-rounded knowledge of manufacturing, installation, and glazing processes.
• Adheres to policies and procedures
• Maintains files and records of drawings
• Maintain current set of Architectural and Structural drawings. Download from FTP sites as needed.
 
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
• Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, AutoCAD, and Inventor.
• Knowledge of Kawneer product being used in application of specific project-product information, installation instructions.
• Understand other construction trades and investigate usage if needed.
• Detail oriented.
• Meet deadlines to support OTIF (On time in Full).
• Desire to learn and be trained.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Experience in curtain wall and window is preferred.
• Well organized.
• Understand and carry out instruction.
• Ask questions when needed.
• Receptive to change.
• Ability to learn software and products standards quickly while maintaining quality and efficiency.


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• HS Diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution
• 1 year of experience with 2D drafting (CAD related software) or 3D modeling (Inventor or other 3D modeling software) experience
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available at this time.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
• Drafting Certificate
• Associates Degree in Mechanical Design, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
• 3+ years of related experience
• 1 year of Inventor or other 3D modeling experience
