Position Description:
Arconic is currently searching for a Director, Continuous Improvement and Step Change to support our Global Rolled Products (GRP) HQ business unit in Alcoa, TN. The Director will be part of the Global Rolled Products’ Center of Excellence for Manufacturing Technology & Engineering group, reporting to the Vice President, GRP CoE for Manufacturing Technology & Engineering (MTE). The incumbent will be accountable of support driving globally Arconic Business System (ABS) methodology and tools that drive Arconic GRP profitable growth. She / He will team with all the location ABS/Continuous Improvement managers to implement lean manufacturing practices across all GRP operations worldwide with adherence the franchise standards. The incumbent is a GRP representative and the single point accountability to the ABS Council (EPS, GRP & TCS). The successful candidate will interact with the following on a regular basis: GRP Pres, BU Pres, Plant Managers, Area Managers, Department Managers, Maintenance Manager, ABS Managers and Leaders, Supervisors, Team leaders or Operators as required. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the benchmarking and identification of ABS lean concepts, principles and tools that have direct impact to GRP Profits & Losses (P&L)
  • Analyze product flow and identify bottle necks, and then de-bottle neck to increase throughput year over year
  • Drive clear inventory targets to reduce working capital while improving delivery performance and product quality
  • Provide the systemic improvements and waste elimination efforts (through kaizen and problem solving) to achieve/exceed GRP targets. 
  • Lead the development and deployment of ABS best practices integrated in all process standard practices across all GRP operations
  • Develop talents across all levels of the organization, who practice the ABS Principles and Concept
  • Lead GRP’s ABS initiatives and ABS Steering Committee that oversee all ABS ongoing development
  • Support GRP operation to rapidly implement and/or continuously improve usage of the stability tools (TPM, Kaizen, Daily Management, Communications, Suggestion System, Reward & Recognition and Problem Solving) or any other tools supporting standard practices deployment prioritized according to their impact to GRP P&L
  • Strategic Thinking – Provides input to developing strategic direction using ABS principles; Effective systems to engage and align people in the strategy; Participates in development and implementation of strategic A3, ensures ABS principles are applied and connect between function and manufacturing groups.
  • As member of the CoE’s multi-disciplinary High Performance Teams; participates in the cultural change required to deliver a long term viable business design and implements ABS process to help deliver the desired cultural change.
  • Support improved equipment reliability and process stability through TPM/Autonomous Maintenance 
  • Accelerate people engagement and ownership of improvement effort through communication and recognition.
  • Interface with ABS and Corporate resources for guidance and assistance in implementing ABS
  • Interface with manufacturing managers in promoting the effective use of ABS in their departments and all along the supply chain, including the interface with customers and suppliers
  • Get all levels of the workforce to actively participate in the implementation of ABS and lead virtul teams
  • Drive the organization towards highest operational standards through the application of the Arconic Values, ABS principles, EHS protocols and the compliance with legal requirements.
 
Note: This position would require the availability to travel at least 25-50% of the time (peaks will be higher)




Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business Management from an accredited institution
  • 10 years' continuous improvement (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc).  with strong leadership, team building and facilitation skills across Operations business organization.
  • 5 years’ experience leading major operational step change or turnaround
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Graduate Degree in Business or Sciences will be considered a plus.
  • Willingness to travel 25%-50% of the time
  • Expert in Lean Manufacturing with experience implementing and applying Lean Manufacturing tools & principals  
  • Experience in Six Sigma approach 
  • Very good business acumen and understanding of rolling business P&L 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with senior management, both written and verbal, in English. Due to the global role, Russian, Chinese, Portuguese, Hungarian, will be considered a plus.
