Arconic is currently in search of  Continuous Improvement Specialists  (multiple openings) to join our Global Rolled Products (GRP) Operations business unit in Davenport, IA.

The Continuous Improvement Specialist will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Continuous Improvement Manager in organizing, planning, implementing and follow-through of continuous improvement initiatives established within Arconic’ s operating model: the Arconic Business System (ABS).  The Continuous Improvement Specialist role includes both creation of strategic vision and tactical management and execution.   Other responsibilities (but not limited to) are the following:
  • Ensure a culture is in place that puts the safety and welfare of our employees ahead of all other goals
  • Assist the Continuous Improvement Manager in leading the development and training of the manufacturing strategy for the plant and each of the departments; including: determining the current condition of the facility to identify opportunities and create a target condition with action plans to improve operational and financial results; utilize Arconic’ s Hoshin framework to capture and manage execution of the strategic actions including reviews and cascading to the teams.
  • Assist Continuous Improvement Manager in providing a plant-wide framework for CI and SMART Manufacturing implementation and facilitate the execution of this strategy.
  • Identify, assess, facilitate, design, and coach implementation of CI methods, techniques, and procedures, including daily management, problem solving, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and/or Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) 5S, visual management, work design, team structure and A3 improvement plans.  Use these tools to lead and facilitate continuous improvement – including SMART Manufacturing.
  • Facilitate successful Kaizen, problem-solving and rapid improvement process events with both internal and external consultants, customers and suppliers, with a major emphasis on locally focused improvement; provide support for all follow-throughs required to sustain the improvements established during the events
  • Lead Operational Excellence using Continuous Improvement (CI) principles, tools, methods, and techniques, in direct support of achieving business goals, improved performance, and decreased cost
  • Coordinate, assist, and deliver team-based ABS training to support enhanced organizational performance through imparting a thorough knowledge of team and ABS concepts, principles, and practices
  • Ensure a team culture is in place and functioning to the expected standards, including: coaching, training, observing and assessing all team roles – including lead operators and star point roles
  • Lead and coach others in determining specific measures of performance and productivity improvements.  Provide training and consultative assistance for all levels of the organization.
  • Use the ASAT (Arconic Self-Assessment Tool) to help identify and implement improvement opportunities, and to assure compliance with corporate expectations
  • Assist team leaders in team skill and knowledge development to support meeting management goals, project management, improvements, results measurements, problem solving, and related team skills
  • Maintain, compile, analyze, and report metrics of improvement projects
  • Coordinate with resource departments to fabricate, install and implement improvements
  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards
  • Maintain full compliance with company policies and procedures, and conduct all activities in accordance with the Arconic Guide to Business Conduct
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of, and commitment to, ABS manufacturing principles and techniques
  • Coordinate with the ABS Center of Excellence to identify and implement best practices from across the Arconic businesses
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Travel may be required to one of three satellite locations (Danville, IL;  Hutchinson, KS; San Antonio, TX)


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Business Management from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in manufacturing
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in lean process improvement
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:  
  • Master’s degree in a related field, strongly desired
  • Minimum of 2 years in manufacturing leadership role
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing theories, methodologies, standards, and tools and ability to utilize Lean tools to generate meaningful, quantified improvement in: cost reduction, efficiency, reduced inventory, shortened cycle or lead times, improved quality and reliability, on-time delivery, or safety
  • Knowledge of SMART Manufacturing and how to apply in support of a lean environment
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with senior management (written and verbal) in English
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills including the ability to work well on cross-functional teams at all levels in the organization
  • Good planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment; and good project management skills
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to influence
  • Understanding of financial and non-financial metrics necessary to achieve plant and business unit Hoshin goals
  • Proven results facilitating continuous improvement activity and/or Lean manufacturing experience in aerospace, defense, or automotive industry
  • Experience with Hoshin framework, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and/or Overall Equipment Effectiveness OEE), 5S, visual factory management, work design, and A3 thinking and improvement plans
  • Computer Skills – proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
