The Continuous Improvement Specialist II should have a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a manufacturing environment, as well as the passion to put that experience to work to lead activities and support plant/location team to achieve manufacturing excellence. 

As a Continuous Improvement Specialist II, you will be responsible for supporting and assisting the Continuous Improvement Manager in the organization, planning, implementation and follow-through of continuous improvement initiatives established within the company’s operating model: the Arconic Business System (ABS).   You will coordinate and lead a wide range of activities that are designed to improve on-time delivery, productivity, quality, cost, safety and environmental performance.

Additional responsibilities (but not limited to) of this position are the following:
  • Ensure a culture is in place that puts the safety and welfare of our employees ahead of all other goals.
  • Facilitate successful kaizen, problem solving and rapid improvement process events with both internal and external consultants, customers and suppliers, with a major emphasis on locally-focused improvement; provide the support for all follow-throughs required to sustain the improvements established during the events
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute 5S and TPM kick-offs/workshops; works with the team to create/modify cleaning standards, TPM checklists, etc. and helps audit to ensure sustainability
  • Coordinate, assist, and deliver team-based ABS training to support enhanced organizational performance through imparting a thorough knowledge of team and ABS concepts, principles, and practices
  • Assist team leaders in team skill and knowledge development to support meeting management goals, project management, improvements, results measurements, problem solving, and related team skills.
  • Provide assistance and support focusing on the perfection of ABS techniques; identify opportunities for improvements – including the use of SMART Manufacturing
  • Assist in the collection of data for tracking improvements
  • Coordinate with resource departments to fabricate, install and implement improvements
  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards
  • Maintain full compliance with company policies and procedures, and conduct all activities in accordance with the Arconic Guide to Business Conduct
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of, and commitment to, ABS manufacturing principles and techniques
  • Coordinate with the ABS Center of Excellence to identify and implement best practices from across the Arconic businesses
  • May be required to travel to one of the two satellite locations (Danville, IL and Hutchinson, KS)

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or Business Management.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in lean manufacturing (i.e. Kaizen events, Daily management processes, TPM/AM, Root cause analysis and problem solving)
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering, from an accredited institution, highly preferred
  • Ability to utilize Lean tools to generate meaningful, quantified improvement in: cost reduction, efficiency, reduced inventory, shortened cycle or lead times, improved quality and reliability, on-time delivery, or safety
  • Knowledge of SMART Manufacturing and how to apply to support a lean environment
  • Leadership skills demonstrated thru a willingness to take charge, offer opinions and direction and a demonstrate ability to influence with limited authority 
  • Teamwork skills including the ability to work well on cross-functional teams at all levels in the organization ability to accept criticism in a calm and effective manner
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to communicate effectively with senior management
  • Strong financial literacy demonstrated thru an ability to drive P&L change in standard costing system through well thought out projects with appropriate Return On Investmen (ROI)
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization as well as prepare and present training
  • Strong computer proficiency with standard office software (i.e.  Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Good planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks independently in a fast-paced environment and able to determine urgency independently
