The Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer is an entry-level position in Arconic’s corporate Continuous Improvement organization.  The role is comprised of an 18-month training program designed to provide trainees with a comprehensive knowledge of Arconic’s system of lean manufacturing, known as “ABS”.  CI Engineers learn ABS through a highly structured program of classroom training, one-on-one coaching from CI Managers, and shop-floor improvement activities and kaizens.  Heavy emphasis is placed on experiential learning, known as “learn by doing”, to maximize the trainees’s ability to apply ABS to create meaningful improvements in Arconic manufacturing plants.  Employees in this role are required to travel to Arconic plant-sites every week or to temporarily relocate to plant locations.  During the 18-month assignment, CI Engineers are exposed to multiple plants, multiple production processes, and multiple ABS coaches, to broaden their exposure and learning experiences to prepare them for future leadership positions in the company.   
Essential Functions:  The Continuous Improvement Engineer position within Arconic includes learning Arconic’s system of Lean Manufacturing and then implementing it in Arconic plants to generate productivity improvements. 
Examples of the responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Ensures a culture is in place that puts the safety and welfare of our employees ahead of all other goals.
• Successfully complete the 18-month Arconic CI Engineer training program including all training classes, Lean readings, kaizen events, and shop-floor improvement activities
• Participate in and eventually lead successful kaizen events with both internal and external consultants, customers, and suppliers, with a major emphasis on locally focused improvement.  Provide the support and follow-throughs required to sustain the improvements established during the kaizens.
• Assist and deliver team-based and ABS training to support enhanced organizational performance through imparting a thorough knowledge of team and ABS concepts, principles, and practices.
• Assist team leaders in team skill and knowledge development to support meeting management goals, project management, improvements, results measurements, problem solving, and related team skills.
• Provide assistance and support focusing on the perfection of ABS techniques.  Identify opportunities for improvements.
• Assist in the collection of data for tracking improvements.
• Coordinate with resource departments to fabricate, install, and implement improvements
• Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
• Maintain full compliance with Company policies and procedures, and conduct all activities in accordance with the Arconic Guide to Business Conduct.
• Demonstrate a knowledge of, and commitment to, ABS manufacturing principles and techniques.
• Coordinate with the ABS Center of Excellence to identify and implement best practices from across the Arconic businesses.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Business Management.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer the Bachelor’s Degree is in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering, from an accredited institution.
  • Internships in Manufacturing operations that provided experience making improvements on the shop floor.
  • Prefer 6 months or more of experience implementing lean manufacturing and rapid improvement programs.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, Toyota Production System (TPS) principles.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, Lean Six Sigma principles.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teaming skills including the ability to work well on cross functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with senior management, supervisors, and operators, (written and verbal) in English.
  • Understanding of financial and non-financial metrics necessary to achieve Plant and BU Hoshin goals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; ability to prepare and present training; ability to influence.
  • Computer Skills - knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment.
