Job Description

The Ceramic Scientist/Engineer is accountable for providing technical expertise in the areas of ceramic material synthesis, powder processing, dispersion technology, specifically (1) design and implement innovative solutions for Arconic's Ceramic Portfolio and new material development (2) synthesis techniques ,equipment design,process experimentation needed for development of new Arconic ceramic materials and process development.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:
  • Applies scientific principles in the areas of ceramic powder synthesis, powder processing, dispersion chemistry technology, inorganic formula development with proven capability of expanding these competencies to produce a portfolio of ceramic materials and corresponding fabrication processes for multiple application areas including aerospace and defense.
  • Operation, maintenance and procedure development of complex, specialized high temperature ceramic units and ceramic powder and dispersion processing equipment
  • Develop and recommend innovative solutions and implement best practices related to ceramic materials and process development

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required and work effectively in team environment.
  • Collection, storage, organization and presentation of data/information generated from analysis, process, and/or laboratory work in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, or other documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute assignments within specified timeline.
  • Ability to work with resources within and outside the group to accomplish required work.
  • Knowledge of high temperature furnace systems, controlled atmosphere and vacuum process systems, seals, fittings, valves, leak detection, temperature, pressure and flow control instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of ceramic material grinding, dispersing and forming methods.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Ceramics, Engineering, Materials Science or Chemistry from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 1 year course work, internship, or work experience in ceramic materials, powder processing or ceramic part fabrication
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
