We have an immediate opening for an Automation Engineer at our Arconic Cleveland Works Plant. 
 
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, this position is accountable for:
  • Supporting the integration of location smart manufacturing strategy elements to include planning, budgeting, and execution of Level 2 & 3 systems across manufacturing processes.
  • Proposing and executing automation projects to reduce operating costs at the Cleveland Works.
  • Providing specialized technical expertise in the application and use of material handling, control, and automation technology for plant facilities and processes.
  • Proposing and executing automation projects to reduce operating costs at the Cleveland Works.
  • Improving the overall safety of the plant’s equipment and processes.
  • Providing engineering innovations that will increase reliability and availability of the plant facilities.
  • Working closely with Production, Planning and other departments (Purchasing, Maintenance, or outside vendors) to plan work activities.
  • Participating in development of long range process and facilities planning, capital expenditure, and cost savings programs.
  • Work on capital improvements of approximately $1 million annually.
  • Driving continuous improvement activities to eliminate all waste, especially as related to maintenance downtime, safety, work practices, and employee involvement.
  • Performing and/or directing the design, development, installation, cost control, and evaluation of complex engineering projects.
  • Providing support in decisions of corporate engineering direction and policy regarding engineering standards, equipment, and processes.
  • Continuing to learn the craft of mechanical, electrical, controls and automation engineering, researching “state-of-the-art” and how it could be utilized on the manufacturing floor.
  • Near mastery of varying software programs, robots, 3D CAD, PLC5 and ControlLogix, device integration experience via serial, TCP/IP, and proprietary protocols, ASP.Net, Java, Java Script, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, MS Share, C#, VBA. JOB DIMENSIONS

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in the automation and controls field.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 1+ years’ experience in automation & controls.
  • PLC 5 and ControlLogix experience.
  • ABB robot programming experience.
  • OSI PI experience.
  • C# Experience and VBA programming.
  • Experience managing projects, including timelines and budgets.
  • Current and up-to-date experience of “state-of-the-art” in mechanical, electrical, control and automation techniques.
