Job Description

Under the direction of the Digital Automation Manager, the Automation Engineer is accountable for deploying smart manufacturing initiatives and internet of things automation projects.
 
• The primary purpose is to manage automation project technology and Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Historian systems for plant facilities and processes.
• Supporting the integration of smart manufacturing strategy elements to include planning, budgeting, and execution of Level 1, 2 & 3 systems across manufacturing processes.
• Participating in development of long range process and facilities planning, capital expenditure, and cost savings programs at Arconic plants
• Providing engineering innovations that will improve process control and product quality.
• Driving continuous improvement activities to eliminate all waste, especially as related to maintenance downtime, safety, work practices, and employee involvement.
• Performing and/or directing the design, development, installation, cost control, and evaluation of complex engineering projects.
• Providing support in decisions of corporate engineering direction and policy regarding engineering standards, equipment, and processes.
• Continuing to learn the craft of electrical, controls, and automation engineering; research “state-of-the-art” processes; and utilize these processes on the manufacturing floor.
 
Job Dimensions:
The primary purpose of this position is to support corporate Digital Automation Strategy, Corporate Standards and pilot projects. The incumbent will possess:
• Ability to visualize, estimate, propose, and implement advanced automation solutions which improve safety, reduce costs, and/or increase output of product manufacturing within Arconic locations
• Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate equipment installations
• Observation skills in operating areas to maintain knowledge of current conditions
• Writing skills to approve engineering specifications, designs, estimates, schedules, spare parts lists, quotations, requisitions, work orders, etc.
• Capacity to direct individual designers, electricians, mechanics, and maintenance supervisors.
• Capability to train less experienced engineers, maintenance supervisors, and craft personnel.
• A desire to maintain effective working relationships with peers, associates, and others at all levels.
• Project Management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet objectives and key deadlines
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• A working knowledge of manufacturing processes and process controls

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Minimum):
• Bachelor's in Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in automation and controls.
• Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship not available for this position.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience utilizing software programs for Robots, Rockwell Automation, Siemens, or similar control and automation products.
• Device integration experience via serial, TCP/IP and proprietary protocols.
• Familiar with MES, Historian, and Visualization systems including Siemens, Rockwell, OSIPI suite
• Familiarity with programming VB.Net, C#, ASP.Net, Java, Java Script, Python, R, Microsoft SQL Server, MS Reporting Services, Windows, VMware Server Administration, and Network Management.
