The Area Manager, reporting to the Operations Manager, oversees the operations of the Conditioning / Bar Turn department at AES Niles.  Responsibilities include managing Production Shift Supervisors and ensuring production goals are met within the guidelines set by the Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Accountable for Environmental, Health, and Safety results, productivity improvement, employee development, maximizing the value of diversity, and customer delivery through implementation of ABS principles, including Daily Management, TPM, 5S, etc.
  • Ensure consistent implementation and execution of policies and systems to guarantee customer (internal and external) expectations are met at the lowest cost and always with safety at the forefront of every activity.
  • Strive to increase productivity and efficiency of Conditioning / Bar Turn operations and ensure the execution of the financial goals and expectations set for the respective year through interaction with the Production Shift Supervisors and production employees. 
  • Must be capable of contributing to the achievement of the manufacturing revenue plan by managing operating cost in the responsible area.  This includes the development of annual operating budgets, cost reduction strategies and efficiency improvements to support the financial goals of the organization.
  • Responsible for managing Production Shift Supervisors. Provide leadership and direction to ensure a competent and motivated salary / hourly workforce.
  • Focus on quality issues by identifying problems in the manufacturing flow, research and analyze potential alternatives that utilize Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing concepts and effectively implement solutions.
  • Consistently track and trend operations results in the Conditioning / Bar Turn department, while constantly focusing on planning for the future state.
  • Daily interaction with the Process Product Metallurgist to better understand the process flow and become adept at identifying areas of opportunity to streamline the manufacturing process.
  • Understanding the capability of the current equipment in the Conditioning / Bar Turn area.  Research options for new equipment that can be purchased utilizing capital expenditures. Evaluate existing equipment for potential upgrade keeping consistency and standardization at the forefront.
  • Explore alternative options for making changes to the manufacturing process that will ultimately achieve an increase in throughput.
  • Operate in a fast-paced setting with ever-changing and multiple priorities while developing the highest standards of quality, cost, service and safety.
  • Assist in special projects spearheaded by operations.  


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in manufacturing
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'green card holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, or Business from an accredited institution.
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably metals.
  • Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in a supervisory / management role with strong leadership, communication and organizational skills. Experience working in a union environment preferred.
  • Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, employee relations, quality, productivity and cost.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing multiple tasks and prioritizing workload while paying attention to detail.
  • Possess excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other regulatory agency directives.
  • Immediate to Advanced skill level in Microsoft Office. Experience with SAP a plus.
  • Experience with direct supervision of multiple groups across multiple shifts.
  • Experience within a Heavy Manufacturing Environment Continuous Improvement/Lean experience.
