Under general direction, is responsible for working closely with Facilities and Maintenance management personnel to implement and administer hazardous materials/waste and recycling receipt, packaging and shipment deliverables and regulatory compliance activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   This is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities.   • Conduct all operations so as to mitigate adverse environmental impacts (e.g., spill containment, contamination, etc).
  • Receive, sort, package and prepare hazardous materials/waste and recyclables for shipment and final disposal or recycling per applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Cease work and take immediate actions, as necessary, to address environmental compliance issues and notify management.
  • Interface with Facilities/Environmental personnel and management to resolve environmental issues.
  • Ensure hazardous materials, waste and recyclable requirements and goals have been identified, met or exceeded.
  • Continuously monitor the site for environmental protection/compliance related issues, initiate measures required to mitigate identified issues, and update documents accordingly.
  • Responsible for taking annual Storm Water samples
  • Responsible for maintaining materials and supplies for Water/Waste Treatment areas
  • Responsible for working with outside Lad scheduling and taking samples
  • Ensure specific environmental controls are maintained throughout the facility.
  • Conduct and document daily environmental inspections as required.
  • Demonstrates safe work behavior at all times.
  • Read and follow operating instructions and record data.
  • Use all required safety equipment.
  • Monitor all Waste Water Treatment Plant operations.
  • Exhibit good leadership.
  • Perform routine maintenance work on valves, tanks and related equipment and facilities.
  • Tank entry and clean, including climbing ladder.
  • Must be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Read and adjust instruments, valves, and pumps.
  • Transport drums using appropriate equipment.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Operate Pumps: Centrifugal, Positive Displacement, Air Operated Diaphragm, and Gear.
  • General housekeeping, sweeping, trash removal, water-blasting, painting, cleaning equipment.
  • Treat and pump waste water.
  • This position will train lower classified Waste Treatment Operators.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Candidates must possess Associate Degree in wastewater technology Grade 1, 2, and 3 in California wastewater treatment operator certificate or equivalent and at least three (3) years of full-time work experience in the field of hazardous waste management and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Current Hazardous Waste Operator’s 40 Hr Course Certification (HAZWOPER) or equivalent nationally recognized certification in waste management, or other environmental discipline, or eligibility for certification. Desired Certified Hazardous Materials (CPESC).
