Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing technical assistance in the design of tooling and gauges to support the manufacturing operations as well as to build, alter and repair a variety of precision measuring gauges, masters and fixtures to very tight tolerances +/-.0001.

Essential Functions

Visualize work to be performed, lay out job, and complete work with little guidance or assistance.  Can design and/or repair machine dies as directed or required.
Work from verbal instructions or as provided Engineering sketches, diagrams or blueprints to perform job assignments.

Job Responsibilities

Assist engineering and production in the design of tooling and gauges to support manufacturing operations.
Design and fabricate various tooling, fixtures, and gauges for engineering and manufacturing operations.
Monitor and perform calibration of tooling and precision gauges.
Provide training for various key tasks on the shop floor.  (Grinding/Blending/Thread Chasing).
Research and develop equipment and tools to support safety, ergonomic risk reduction and machine guarding.
Work with engineering to evaluate process methods for new part qualifications.
Develop prototypes and layout new tool design and fabrication with the tool repair and fabrication area. 
Assist with maintenance and repair of critical facility equipment.
Design and fabricate spare parts that are otherwise unavailable for older systems and equipment in the shop.  

Maintain and update Storage Rack Inventory and load ratings
Schedules annual scale and surface plate calibration for the plant.
Consult with Engineering and Production to provide problem solving feedback and information.
Complete all paperwork in accordance to company procedures.
Adhere to all company safety rules and practices and wears protective equipment as directed.
Keep work area clean according to 6’S standards.
Perform other job duties as needed or directed by management.



This position requires a minimum of a High School Education, or GED. 
Toolmaker Apprenticeship Program certified by the State of Connecticut preferred.
Skills & Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret internal and or customer requirements and be able to follow detailed instructions including drawings and blueprints.
Computer skills including CAD, MS Office and Outlook.
Ability to make independent decisions after review of internal and or customer requirements.
Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence or documentation. 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.   Ability to creatively deal with problems and find solutions.
Maintain constant alertness and attention to work.
Ability to work well as part of a team.
Must have the ability to setup and operate a wide variety of milling, grinding and honing machines.

A minimum of three (3) years related experience working to very tight tolerances +/-.0001.
