Job Description:
The purpose of the Staff Technician-HVAC position is to aid in the industrial design, operation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and electrical equipment and all supporting systems in a cost-effective manner for the Arconic Technology Center. This will be done with a high regard for professionalism and open communication with all teams and individual team members of all disciplines. A proactive approach will be taken to assess possible future needs and requirements and yet allow response to immediate issues. This will be done while maintaining the highest of standards for safety and environmental concerns.
 
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
  • Perform all work and conduct oneself in a manner that promotes the safety of the individual and all others at ATC. In addition, be aware of and protect the environment causing no negative impact.
  • Perform work on water cooled and air-cooled industrial chillers up to 900 tons.
  • Perform work on natural gas heaters up to 1,000,000 BTU/hr
  • Perform work on industrial pneumatic temperature control systems.
  • Preventative maintenance and service to existing industrial HVAC and electrical equipment for the reliable operation of this equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and make necessary repairs to existing industrial HVAC and electrical equipment as the need for repairs are identified. If outages are necessary, these outages must be coordinated with the effected process partners to minimize the impact to the process partners and their projects.
  • Perform construction and installation work for projects that are necessary to upgrade industrial HVAC and electrical equipment that services the facilities and research projects at ATC.
  • Work with Engineering when requested. This is to provide support and assistance on projects for new installations or upgrades to existing equipment.
  • Requires being on-call for evening and weekend support when maintenance issues arise.

Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education:
  • Formal HVAC training beyond a High School degree. Skills and knowledge equivalent to a journeyperson in the craft trades or equivalent years of education and experience.
  • %22Universal%22 Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.
  • Three to five years HVAC experience in an industrial or heavy commercial environment.
  • Moderate electrical background and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Be physically able and willing to wear and use an air purifying respirator.
  • Be physically able and willing to be trained to operate self-propelled
  •  man lifts.
  • Be physically able and willing to be trained to operate mobile equipment of various kinds.
  • Be physically able and willing to wear required fall protection


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Formal HVAC training beyond a high school degree from an accredited institution. Skills and knowledge equivalent to a journeyperson in the craft trades or equivalent years of education and experience.
  • %22Universal%22 Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.
  • Minimum 2  years HVAC experience in an industrial or heavy commercial environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four to six years HVAC experience in an industrial or heavy commercial environment Experience in operating and maintaining low and high pressure steam boilers
