Arconic is looking for a Sr. Staff Technician within the Spectrochemical Reference Materials business to join our Arconic Technology Center in New Kensington, PA.

Job Description:
The Sr. Staff Technician position within the Spectrochemical Reference Materials (SCRM) business is responsible for the preparation and analysis of samples by ICP-AES and/or ICP-MS using standard methodologies. This role supports SCRM sales and overall growth model. This position is required to ensure all testing is done within the guidelines of a Quality System.
This role may also be leveraged on occasion to conduct Analytical type testing for the Global Rolled Products business.
 
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
  • Maintains laboratories and coordinates activities for ICP analysis within the SCRM business
  • Independently performs routine/defined preparation and analysis samples in a timely manner using standard Good Laboratory Practices
  • Ensures all work is done within the guidelines of the Quality System
  • Runs and evaluates appropriate QA/QC samples as part of the overall Quality SPC process; including Control Charting
  • Effectively and promptly works and communicates with the SCRM team and other analysts concerning assigned samples and projects in person, by phone and email, when necessary
  • Organizes work to use time effectively; identifies scheduling roadblocks and resolves
  • Evaluates and reports ICP results to SCRM Analytical Coordinator
  • Cross-trains with SCRM Analytical Coordinator to perform preliminary certification for SCRM product certificate
  • Trains less experienced chemists and technicians
  • Strong collaboration skills required
  • Acquires business knowledge such as, Arconic products and processes; recognizes the impact of preparation and analysis quality and timeliness on subsequent sample analyses
  • Actively completes broad range of learning opportunities within principle area for growth and development; participates in cross-training activities for growth and development; acquire knowledge from supervisor and coworkers to enable assumption of responsibility for lab area
  • Identifies and communicates potential problems; presents ideas for problem resolution; resolves with guidance from supervisor or more experienced analyst
  • Gathers information to understand risk associated with method; initiates appropriate action in spite of uncertainty; learns from error and failure; communicates with supervisor and coworkers to define actions necessary to prevent future failure
  • Ensures adherence to the quality system for ISO 17025 and 9001 accreditations
  • Supports Spectrochemical Reference Materials EHS policies and programs 
 
 
 
Essential Knowledge & Skills/Education:
 

  • BS Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology
  • 1-2 years experience with ICP or ICP-MS analysis
  • Physical ability to perform demanding sample preparation activities
  • Computer skills including ability to process data sets using EXCEL
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and work both individually and as part of a team 

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
•    BS Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology
•    1-2 years experience with ICP or ICP-MS analysis
•    Computer skills including ability to process data sets using EXCEL
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Physical ability to perform demanding sample preparation activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and work both individually and as part of a team
