Job Description

Arconic, the Pittsburgh, PA-based lightweight metals engineering and manufacturing company, announced in 2019 its plan to separate into two independent, publicly traded companies by the second quarter 2020. The newly formed companies will be:
  • Howmet Aerospace, consisting of the Engines, Fastening Systems, Engineered Structures, and Wheels businesses. HA will be a developer and manufacturer of high-performance products mainly for the aerospace (commercial and defense), commercial transportation, and power generation end markets.
  • Arconic Corporation, consisting of the Rolled Products, Extrusions, and Building and Construction Systems businesses, a manufacturer of aluminum sheet, plate, extrusions and architectural products, serving primarily the aerospace, defense, automotive, commercial transportation, industrial and building and construction end-markets. 

This role, upon completion of the Separation, will be part of the Howmet Aerospace company.

The position reports to the VP Communications.

The position is based in the future Howmet Aerospace world headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Senior Manager of Internal and Digital Communications will be part of a small team where internal communications is a key function. You will lead a fully integrated internal and digital communications platform that reflects the Company’s business strategy and innovation, Values, community presence, recruiting and inclusion initiatives across its website, intranet, and social media channels.

Key Focus Areas of Role 

Internal Communications:

  • Responsible for initiating, recommending and preparing internal / employee communication programs and initiatives that align with company objectives, requires understanding employee information needs, gathering and writing employee communications that address those needs, shepherding these communications through reviews and approvals, and managing highly visible projects.
  • Understand and communicate business strategy, HR, financial and technical information clearly and accurately to diverse employee population.
  • Support office of the CEO with Town Hall meetings, leadership meetings and web chats; create materials and messaging around same.
  • Develop and execute high-quality internal strategic communications plans and programs to strengthen trust in leadership and create high level of employee engagement
  • Support multiple company-sponsored programs including Compliance, CSR, Diversity & Inclusion and Recruiting.
  • Manage external agencies, creative consultants and vendors.
  • Manage intranet and develop editorial content and calendar.
  • Update and post information assets–fact sheets, talking points, presentations, and similar materials on a regular basis.
  • Provide counsel to the business unites on specific communications, such as announcements and newsletters, and distribute centrally as needed
  • Collaborate with counterparts at all corporate groups/divisions, and other Employee Communication stakeholders to develop and distribute messaging appropriate for internal audiences.

Digital Strategy:

  • Conceive and implement digital strategy across Arconic’s internal and external (LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook) platforms; holistically weave content from internal and external communications to create campaigns and content that are unified, innovative, and outcomes-oriented.
  • Create and manage proactive content pipeline to amplify messaging that celebrates the Company’s community investments; helps drive recruiting of top talent; promotes the Company as an inclusive and values-based organization; and highlights our superior technology and spirit of innovation.
  • Serve as Arconic’s digital thought leader – able to understand Company objectives, priorities and challenges in order to make communications decisions that positively impact and advance the business; anticipate the needs of the function and the business; and keep pace with the latest communication and technology trends
  • Work closely with Creative Director to support Arconic’s corporate brand positioning and brand awareness.

  • Competent in the use of SharePoint Online, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Video production familiarity a plus.
  • Skilled in aspects of digital communications: web, social, mobile, search, apps, webcasts.


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or business.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in internal communications.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven outcomes resulting from 7 years of relevant internal and digital communications experience, ideally with strong brands and in a business to business environment
  • Experience working in a cross-functional corporate communications environment, with matrixed worldwide structure, and supporting C-suite
  • Change management and/or organizational development experience a plus
  • Minimal overnight travel (less than 5%)
