Job Description

Kawneer North America offers architectural aluminum building products and systems for the commercial construction industry. We provide customers with a comprehensive product portfolio that includes entrances, framing systems, windows and curtain wall systems. The PLC Controls Engineer uses technical skills and knowledge to do the following:
  • Provide day-to-day technical advice, problem solving and support to operations and maintenance by applying engineering principles, ABS and reliability tools to drive problems to root cause.
  • Conduct failure investigation - Lead and catalog root cause analysis of chronic failures. Develop new procedures as well as changes to existing procedures to mitigate future failures.
  • Develop methods for timely repair of assets. Prepare job plan steps with procedures.
  • Initiate and/or implement improvement projects to eliminate safety issues, quality concerns, repetitive equipment failures and other major and minor issues.
  • Manage small and large capital projects.
  • Ensure compliance of project and maintenance work with appropriate engineering standards.
  • Develop equipment modification plans based on failure data, craft feedback and OEM design modifications.
  • Create, maintain and update equipment files, these include technical specifications, BOM and drawings.
  • Develop preventive/predictive programs/systems to improve process and equipment performance.
  • Identify and/or implement new ideas and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Track and report on equipment related downtime and scrap.
  • Identify and/or implement new ideas and cost reduction opportunities.

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • 3 years of experience with electrical and control systems including, but not limited to, AC/DC motors and systems, PLCs, and instrumentation.
