Arconic Fastening Systems (AFS)  is currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer III job in Sylmar, CA for our aerospace manufacturing facility.

Key Responsibilities for the Manufacturing Engineer III in Sylmar, CA
  • Provides engineering support and leads problem solving/troubleshooting events for the actual products.  Implements timely solutions to maintain the continuity of production flow;
  • Provides engineering support regarding the development of manufacturing processes, operation drawings and tooling for new parts, including qualification of the new product to customers;
  • Designs manufacturing processes within schedule and budgetary parameters;
  • Responsible for maintenance of material specifications, product and tooling drawings, routing sheets and manufacturing procedures;
  • Design and debugging of manufacturing processes and tooling for hot and cold headers, thread and fillet rollers, drillers, etc.;
  • Continuous improvement of tooling and methods. Proposes, develops and implements cost effective manufacturing practices to increase manufacturing efficiency, avoiding cost variances and for increased profitability;
  • Provides support for the Product management and Sales (contract review) regarding to quoting and reviewing the manufacturing costs for the existing products and for the new products;
  • Proposes, designs and implement practices for reduction of set-up time and for optimization of the product flow; proposes, develops and implement dedicated product flow path (lean manufacturing);
  • Work side by side with production technicians to enhance manufacturing processes and troubleshoot issues;
  • Serve as a resource for technical guidance to manufacturing personnel.
  • Determine root cause of persistent problems and lead implementation of corrective actions
  • Support Quality System Improvement;
  • Interfaces with other manufacturing departments to address and resolve engineering issues.
  • Interfaces with vendors and outside sales personnel to evaluate, cost estimate, and select parts or equipment;
  • Support employee training;
  • Propose, analyze and prepare justifications for capital projects;
  • Work in a safe manner that promotes the health and well-being of the individual and the environment;
  • Comply with all EHS rules and regulations and supervisory instructions;
  • Report incidents, including EHS incidents (injuries, spills, fires, property damage, and near misses) and product quality concerns;
  • Other tasks as assigned.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situation where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
  • Knowledgeable of quality assurance methods for inspections and testing of structural parts and components used in the aerospace industry;
  • knowledgeable and capable to use quality inspection tools, gauges, instruments (calipers, micrometers, comparators, etc.);
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs; strong Excel proficiency;
  • Proficient with engineering drawing tools AUTOCAD, Solid Works;
  • Organized and meticulous capable to capture and pay attention to details;
  • Basic technical and practical knowledge of materials and alloys used for structural components and parts commonly used in the aerospace industry;
  • Familiar with thermal processing (heat treatment) and chemical processing of structural parts and components used in the aerospace industry.

Qualifications

 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Institution;
  • Minimum five (5) years of engineering experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment;
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position;
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited institution;
  • Experience as a product/manufacturing engineer responsible for product development, product manufacturing, including product qualification preferred;
  • Work experience in fasteners industry or similar high-volume production environment;
  • Experience with precision machined metal forming manufacturing;
  • Experience with product and process failure analysis;
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as lean manufacturing, JIT, SPC, TQM, etc.;
  • Experience in aerospace industry;
  • Experience in the fastener manufacturing industry;
  • Experience and proficiency with SolidWorks;
  • Experience with ERP systems.
