Arconic is currently in search of a Counsel to join our Corporate Legal group in Pittsburgh, PA. The primary purpose of the position is to provide advanced legal advice and services to Arconic's Business Units and Resource Units on a cost-effective basis utilizing the highest professional standards of practice while satisfying the legal needs of a global business enterprise.
Major Activities/Key Challenges:
  • Reports to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and interacts with members of the Legal Department, as well as Business Unit and Resource Unit clients.
  • Helps provide strategic leadership for intellectual property matters for Arconic as part of the Intellectual Property Law Practice within the corporate law department.
  • Manages Arconic’s patent committees for each of its Business Units, Resource Units, and market teams.
  • Review invention records, makes strategic recommendations on pursuing patent and/or trade secret protection; supervises the patent drafting and prosecution process.
  • Provides client counseling and training on IP and other topics as may be required by the Legal Dept.
  • Provides, or is willing to learn to provide, quality legal services with emphasis on intellectual property related issues in general commercial and transactional issues.
  • Proactively implements established Corporate Policies and Procedures related to the protection of intellectual property.  Makes recommendations for the improvement of IP procedures.
  • Acts as a thought leader to solve large scale, complex problems.
  • Leverages a professional network across the organization to influence the accomplishment of goals.
  • Communicates in a manner that effectively influences business decisions.
  • Works with and through the engagement of others to accomplish objectives and to achieve the highest quality results and impact.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment for the positions advanced by senior management, both within the Legal Department and the Company.
  • Assists in the management of outside intellectual property counsel and serves as an interface between outside counsel and Arconic's Business Units and Resource Units.
Essential Knowledge& Skills/Education:
  • Law degree from a reputable law school and excellent academic record.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience practicing as an intellectual property lawyer.
  • Eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.


Basic Qualifications:
  • JD Law degree from an accredited institution
  • Eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience practicing as a patent lawyer
  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Metallurgy, aerospace or chemical engineering undergraduate degree.
  • Broad base of Intellectual Property law experience with trade secrets, patents, trademarks, copyrights and litigation.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Excellent leadership and client relationship skills, including the ability to influence others, foster team work, and drive for results and change within a large and complex organization.
