Arconic is looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our Arconic Wheel and Transportation Products (AWTP) business unit in Cleveland, OH.

Under the direction of the Global Continuous Improvement Director, the Continuous Improvement Engineer is accountable for the execution of continuous improvement initiatives within the company’s operating model: the Arconic Business System (ABS). The ABS Engineer will support the critical problem-solving efforts identified by the business unit as a team member for focused initiatives. Focus would include attending Plant/ Functional (DMS) meetings and supporting system set up and improvement through observation, problem identification, and targeted coaching. This role is a strong opportunity for future operational leaders to understand the tools and methods for driving improvement with a data, process, and system driven perspective.
Major Activities and Key Challenges Include:
  • Drive the execution of ABS manufacturing principles and techniques that deliver productivity that meets or exceeds cost savings targets (as measured in DI system).
  • Utilize performance metrics monitoring, observation techniques, and data analysis tools to identify opportunities that close performance gaps via A3 thinking.
  • Facilitate successful kaizen and rapid improvement process events including the support required to sustain the improvements established during the events.
  • Coach and support operational leaders in meeting business improvement metrics and driving cultural change through the application of ABS methods and techniques with special focus in problem solving methods, tools, and strategies.
  • Support the development of visual tools utilizing digital automation as need to upgrade the operating system and performance monitoring approaches.  
  • Maintain full compliance with Company policies and procedures and conducts all activities in accordance with the Alcoa Guide to Business Conduct. Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Willingness to “go see” and spend focused time on the shop floor to work alongside shop team to develop understanding and perspective.
  • Ability to train others in basic lean tools (TPM, Daily Management, Problem solving, kaizen, Leader Standard work, etc.) and drive bottom line impact through their engagement.
  • Capable as an engineering resource to observe, identify problems, and improve the operation through various CI tools with a focus on data driven analysis and sound problem-solving techniques (A3 thinking).
  • Good facilitation and training skills to deliver ABS concepts, principles and practices.
  • Strong project management skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing and completing multiple work assignments in diverse fields with minimal direction.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other business software.
  • A working knowledge of manufacturing processes, process controls


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. (IF NEEDED)
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.  ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. (IF NEEDED)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Manufacturing Technology from an accredited institution
  • ABS certification Level 1 or completion within 18 months of role. Consideration for equivalent experience via external certification recognition (Six Sigma, Lean, ASQ Certification, etc.)
  • Experience leading kaizen activity
  • Prior manufacturing experience
  • Experience with smart manufacturing technologies (historian, PLC data collection, MES, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing and rapid improvement techniques
