Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Job

  • The ATEP Procurement Engineering Director leads and develops the Business Unit Procurement Engineering Organization together with the ATEP Procurement Director.
  • The overall goal is to achieve the best total cost position for all external spend of the Business Unit and its plants and operations, the lowest sourcing risks, best supplier performances and ensuring highest efficiency and effectiveness of the BU procurement organization.
  • He/she ensures the optimal collaboration of Procurement Engineering with Procurement Operations as well as with Global Capital and Category Management to achieve best procurement results.
  • He/she is directly responsible for the designated Procurement Engineering team and the corresponding targets.

Major activities / Key challenges
• Responsible for the relevant Procurement Engineering function. Accountable for the development of procurement engineering strategies which lead to cost reductions from new product design, process design, supplier development, and equipment design.
• Leads Procurement Engineers
• Works in close conjunction and alignment with Procurement Operations Director. Both teams interact closely to deliver procurement engineering projects that support the overall cost reduction goals for that business. Procurement Operations group is responsible for overall support in the form of resources, data collection, escalation paths, etc.
• Shares savings targets with Business Unit & Capital Procurement Leads
• Communicates BU targets and derives goals accordingly to BU Procurement Engineering team
• Identifies and assesses Procurement Engineering opportunities together with Global Business Unit Management Director and Business Unit Procurement Engineering Leads
• Develops and executes on cost savings strategies for defined and agreed opportunities by using state-of-the-art measures, e.g. Designed-to-cost, Target costing, Product Re-engineering, Scope revisions, Benchmarking efforts, Material and Product substitution etc.
• Conducts product and process innovation workshops with preferred suppliers
• Performs market analyses (globally and regionally) on select target materials and products based on high yield savings approaches
• Communicates Product and/or Supplier issues to Procurement Operations Leads, Capital and Category Management teams
• Participates in supplier meetings jointly with Category Lead and Procurement Operations team if relevant for the Business Unit and its Procurement Engineering
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of industrial manufacturing experience in the areas of blending aluminum alloys, and a working knowledge of direct gas fired furnace
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated Environmental, Health and Safety orientation
  • Proven leadership, organizational, communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Knowledge and experience in applying lean manufacturing/six sigma
  • Ability to establish sound priorities and objectives and can function in a high-pressure work environment characterized by constant change
  • Must be self-motivated, able to motivate others, able to set direction and expectations and follow-up to ensure success
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Basic Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
•Minimum of 8 years experience in an engineering or technical role.
•Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of Hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
•This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.


Preferred Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Aerospace, Industrial, Metallurgical, Manufacturing, materials engineering systems.

•MBA from an accredited institution

•Project management expertise (PMP)

•Minimum of 5 years’ experience with a engineering procurement function in a major manufacturing organization
•Advanced level of knowledge in complex purchasing and procurement organizations
•International working experience in a purchasing organization.
•Seasoned professional with methodical approach
•Leadership and people development skills in complex matrix organizations
•Strong business acumen, dedicated to results
