Job Description

Arconic is currently in search of a Metallurgical Engineer to join our team in San Antonio, TX and support our Global Rolled Products, Micromill Products and Services business unit. The Metallurgical Engineer will report directly to the Quality Manager, and be responsible for understanding the metallurgical aspects of the process, products, and they will help to drive improvements.


  • Translate customer and industry standards to production work instructions, and ensure execution.
  • Use Metallurgy/Material Science experience and classroom knowledge to provide daily trouble-shooting, project design and execution, equipment and service selection and specification, advice and assistance to maintenance personnel to improve uptime and equipment reliability, and adherence to regulatory and Arconic EHS requirements.
  • Daily duties are performed in a “hands on” environment and include, but are not limited to, providing on-call response to restore flow and developing and implementing countermeasures to prevent problem recurrence
  • Providing day-to-day technical advice, problem solving and support to operations and maintenance by applying engineering principles, ABS and reliability tools to drive problems to root cause.
  • Initiating and/or implementing improvement projects including engineering solutions to eliminate safety and quality concerns, repetitive equipment failures and other major and minor issues.
  • Managing capital project requests, schedules, costs, etc.
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating equipment files and drawings.
  • Developing preventative/predictive programs/systems to improve process and equipment performance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Metallurgist in a manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with Statistical Methods, Engineering Calculations, Physical Metallurgy, Mechanical Metallurgy, Lubricants, or Material Processing.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in the aluminum industry.
  • Experience with rolling operations.
  • Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Metallurgical experience with Automotive products.
  • Experience with heat-treatable alloys.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Effective quality problem solving skills to the root cause and the ability to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings (blue prints).
  • Capable and effective at being able to communicate the principles of process management and statistical tools in a user-friendly manner to manufacturing personnel.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Minitab)
